e-learning presents iPad 101

Academic institutions' relationship with technology can be gauged by increasing adoption and ed tech use. Some provide the student body with computers, support BYOD (bring your own device) while others may be piloting integration of an  instructional technology tool. At this year's ITC's e-learning conference, the iPad, was the focus of one of its encore pre-conference workshops.

Howard Beattie, Educational Specialist, Holland College, Prince Edward Island, Canada and Michael Amick, Dean of Academic and Technology Services, Central Lakes College, Brainerd, Minnesota, provided an informative hands-on presentation that synthesized the  value of the iPad beyond entertainment.

College states in attendance included New Jersey, Oregon, Nebraska, New York, North Dakota, Texas, and Missouri. Among particpants, iPad possession ranged from a few weeks to a couple of years at most. Even relatively experienced users in the group benefited from the tips and shortcuts shared.

The speakers covered fundamentals -- from the "anatomy of the iPad" -- general settings, keyboard options, multitasking gesturing, organization and battery saving how-to's, finding your iPad, and the pièce de résistance
...Apps.

Reflector is one of the apps that earned some exposure and was highly recommended to connect and present multiple screens side-by-side. After  installing the software on a PC or MAC, given adequate wifi connectivity, users can mirror what is on their respective iPads. Ideal for collaboration and sharing.
